Marostica

Marostica is a small town but rich in history and things to see. Marostica’s own hill is crowned with a large castle; defensive walls descend to enclose the hillside and the town centre below in a protective embrace. Marostica’s principal tourist sights are the two castles, one at the top of the hill above town, the other in the main square, Piazza Castello.

In the square itself you can see the large chessboard laid out in paving stones, and admire the view up to the upper castle (Castello Superiore). For sure do not miss the traditional human Chess game, which takes place in even-numbered years on the second weekend of September.
